SGR APPOINTS ITS FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - DR STUART PARKINSON

Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) has appointed its first Executive Director - Dr Stuart Parkinson.

Stuart formerly worked at Surrey University as a Research Fellow and for Friends of the Earth (Programme Manager, Environmental Justice). He has 12 years research experience spanning climate change, energy policy and environmental modelling. He has written over 25 scientific papers and 20 popular science articles and has co-authored a book "Flexibility in Climate Policy: Making the Kyoto Mechanisms Work, (Earthscan, 2001).

His experience of the political process includes being an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change and as an advisor to government negotiators during the UN Climate Change Convention talks. Stuart has also been very active within SGR itself, co-editing the Ethical Careers guide, fundraising and Chair for two years.

SGR warmly welcomes Dr Parkinson to this post where he is tasked with managing SGR's development programme including Careers Briefings, research into the influence of the military upon University work and expansion of SGR's membership & funding base.
