CLIMATE NEEDS RESEARCH AND ACTION

Web version of a press release issued on 12 June 2001 by SGR

Scientists for Global Responsibility [1] notes with dismay that USA President Bush has reiterated his earlier position, declining to take effective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and claiming that the current need is primarily for more research. SGR's view is that enough is known about climate change, and its links with greenhouse gas emissions due to human economic activity, to make prompt effective policy decisions a duty of all political leaders. At the same time, more research, conducted now, will permit future refinement of current best policy decisions.

On the question of certainty ... it can never be achieved. SGR repeats its observation that 'Climate Change is More Certain than George W. Bush's Election Result'.
