About the book :
It was announced in August 1993 that a Bolton couple were suing their
local electricity company, NORWEB, for the death of
their 13 year old son from leukaemia. This is the first such case in
Europe. The publicity has produced a large number of
enquiries from people worried that electricity in their home might
cause serious illness and puzzled by the apparent lack of
public information on the subject.
Living with Electricity was written in order to try and help people
understand the issues involved. It concentrates on low
frequency power-line fields, but also includes some details about radio
and microwave hazards. The authors have tried to make
the information as accurate and unbiased as possible. They believe
that, although there is reason to be concerned, there is no
need to panic over the possible hazards. The public should be informed
about the indicated levels of risk and be given advice
so that they can, if they choose, practise prudent avoidance.
