Video: UK Universities and the Arms Trade

  • Jinsella works to ensure the power of education is used as a force for peace, not war. Co-Founder and Executive Director of Demilitarise Education (dED), a UK-based initiative working to end university ties to the arms industry. Since launching dED in 2019, she has led the creation of the world’s first Universities and Arms Database, uncovering billions in arms trade partnerships and spearheaded the Demilitarise Education Treaty, which calls for arms exclusionary policy. Her work unites research, advocacy and engagement, driven by the need to ensure that no one’s learning fuels another’s loss.

    • Sam Perlo-Freeman is Research Coordinator at CAAT, where he researches the UK arms industry and trade, and the political influence of the UK arms industry. He has been working on arms trade issues as a researcher and activist for about 28 years, with CAAT, World Peace Foundation, SIPRI, and in academia, and has published widely on issues relating to military spending and the arms industry and trade.

     

    Professor Anna Stavrianakis, University of Sussex

    Video: What Do We Study & Why Do We Study It?

    • Anna is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Sussex, where she researches and teaches on the global arms trade, militarism and global (in)securities, working with undergraduate, MA and PhD students. She works regularly with activists, campaigners, journalists, lawyers and parliamentarians seeking accountability for abuses and restrictions on the arms trade.

     

    Khem Rogaly, Transition Security Project

    Video: The Political Economy of the Climate Crisis

    • Khem Rogaly is Co-Director of Transition Security Project, a new research centre that investigates the US and UK military industrial complexes as economic, climate and geopolitical threats. Khem is also Principal Research Fellow at the economic policy think tank Common Wealth.
