Humanitarian impacts from a single nuclear weapon detonation on Manchester

Assisted by Dr Philip Webber, SGR, the campaign group Article 36 has published a short case study of the direct humanitarian impacts from a single nuclear weapon detonation on Manchester, UK. This study is intended as a reminder of the devastating impact that just one nuclear warhead - of the size of a Trident warhead - can cause to a city.

The briefing can be downloaded from the Article 36 website.

This briefing was launched as one of six UK-focused reports on the humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons - to feed into the Oslo intergovernmental conference on this issue (4-5 March 2013). SGR published one of the others - on climatic impacts. All six can be downloaded from ICAN-UK (the UK branch of the International Campaign Against Nuclear Weapons).
