SGR seeks a new Executive Director

Dr Stuart Parkinson has led SGR as its Executive Director since 2003. He has decided to focus on research (in a new role within SGR), so we are now seeking a new Executive Director to lead the organisation into an exciting new phase of activity, building on our already extensive body of work.

Stuart said: "Co-ordinating SGR's activities has been a very rewarding experience. You get to work on a range of science and technology issues across the peace, sustainability, and justice arenas. You work alongside highly knowledgeable and inspiring people. And the work is varied and at the forefront of progressive agendas. I thoroughly recommend it!"

The successful candidate will be based in the UK and will work constructively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds to propose and deliver work programmes which take forward SGR’s agenda, especially in areas such as climate change, militarism, and science and technology policy.

Hours: 40% full-time equivalent (15 hours/week); permanent. There is scope for more hours, dependent on successful grant applications.

Salary: £42,123 pro-rata, plus home-working allowance (and London weighting if applicable).

The job description, person specification and application form can be found on our vacancies page, and the deadline for applications is Monday 9 November 2026.
